Job Description
Unleash your Mechanical andPlumbing code knowledge and become a key player in our Building and Safety Division! We're seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical/Plumbing Plans Examiner to ensure compliance with mechanical and plumbing codes, laws, and regulations for commercial projects. This role involves reviewing mechanical and plumbing designs and specifications to verify compliance with national and local codes, ensuring safe and efficient electrical systems for new construction, renovations, and upgrades.

The Planning and Development Department is responsible for planning and visioning for the future growth of Raleigh and permitting and inspections for residential and non-residential development projects. Duties and Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Review and evaluate commercial plans for code compliance
  • Provide technical expertise, advice, and guidance on code related questions
  • Provide communication and customer support to permit applicants and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other trade groups and departments on reviews
  • Maintain records, files, and documentation of code information, resources, and code changes
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; 5 to 7 years' experience in building trades and inspection
OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Licenses or Certifications:
  • North Carolina Inspection and/or Plans Examiner certification
  • Licensure in assigned building trade
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical and plumbing engineering, construction management, or related field
Additional Information

  • Knowledge of mechanical and plumbing Code
  • Ability to perform electronic plan review
  • Skill in performing technical plans review to determine mechanical and plumbing systems code compliance
  • Ability in interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations and standards
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills

Work Environment and Physical Effort:
Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Work in this role will occasionally be performed on a construction site.

Work Exposures:
Work in this position does not require frequent environmental exposures. Employees will occasionally be exposed to individuals who are hostile or irate.
