Job Purpose
The Privacy Risk Specialist supports American Honda's Data Privacy Governance team by independently conducting routine privacy risk assessments and contributing to the operationalization of privacy requirements across business operations. This role provides practical, risk-based recommendations, supports special projects, and collaborates with team members and stakeholders to ensure effective privacy risk management and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key Accountabilities
- Conduct Routine Privacy Risk Assessments
Independently perform routine Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs, DPIAs, PTAs) for business processes, products, and services, ensuring accurate documentation and practical recommendations. Escalate moderately complex or high-risk issues to senior team members as appropriate.
- Support Operationalization of Privacy Requirements
Assist in interpreting and applying privacy laws, regulations, and internal policies to business operations. Contribute to the development and maintenance of privacy "spec sheets" and guidance documents under the direction of senior team member
- Project Support and Process Improvement
Support special projects, regulatory implementation, and process improvement initiatives led by senior team members. May lead smaller initiatives for development or as needed.
- Knowledge Sharing and Team Collaboration
Actively participate in team meetings, share knowledge and best practices, and be receptive to mentorship and coaching from senior team members.
- Stakeholder Consultation and Communication
Provide clear, practical recommendations to business, IT, and legal stakeholders within the scope of experience. Collaborate with cross-functional partners to support privacy risk management activities.
- Industry Engagement and Benchmarking
Participate in industry forums, working groups, or benchmarking activities as assigned, bringing relevant insights back to the team.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Minimum Educational Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Law, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
• Equivalent professional experience in privacy, legal compliance, or technical risk management may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Professional certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPT, or FIP are preferred but not required.
Minimum Experience
• 5-8 years of experience in privacy, legal compliance, data governance, or risk management roles.
• Experience conducting or supporting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs, DPIAs, PTAs) and developing risk mitigation recommendations.
• Working knowledge of U.S. state privacy laws (e.g., CPRA, CCPA), global frameworks (e.g., GDPR, NIST), and industry-specific regulations.
• Experience supporting cross-functional projects or process improvements.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on routine tasks and collaboratively within a team.
Other Job-Specific Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
• Experience with privacy management platforms (e.g., OneTrust, TrustArc, BigID) and data mapping tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with web technologies (cookies, tagging, trackers, JavaScript) and privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) is desirable.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey privacy risks and requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to learn, share knowledge, and receive mentorship from senior team members.
