Overview

The goal of the University Audit and Advisory (UAA) Summer Internship is to provide selected New Haven Promise Scholars with exposure and a learning experience in risk management, compliance, governance, and business processes. This internship is a fantastic opportunity for an energetic, dedicated individual seeking real-world auditing experience.

The UAA department provides risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight to help the university accomplish its goals and objectives. and systematically improve the effectiveness of risk management, controls, governance, and business processes. This position focuses on financial and operational audit work supporting the team for various audits and projects. As an integral team member, the intern will participate in departmental meetings and training opportunities. Candidates will gain exposure to our internal audit processes and be introduced to various members of the university community.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Participating in various phases of audit projects including planning, fieldwork, reporting, and follow up
  • Attending client meetings and interviews to assist with the collection of information
  • Assisting with the development of observations and value-added recommendations to our audit clients
  • Researching best practices at peer institutions
  • Utilizing software like Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio to help develop visualizations and enhance deliverables
  • Completing special projects as needed and other duties assigned


Required Skills and Abilities
  • Strong technical and organizational skills in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills, in a professional environment.
  • A high level of integrity, accuracy, dependability, enthusiasm, and confidentiality.
  • Experienced and/or proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work well both independently and in team settings.
