The Role
This role collaborates with the Senior Manager of Cloud in creating and reviewing strategic plans for the continuous development of practices related to creating reliable, scalable, and cost-effective systems that meet corporate and client standards. They will lead the Cloud team in reducing costs while also increasing security, reliability, and capability. As a skilled engineer and leader, this role is responsible for guiding the developmental work practices, professional growth, and project goal achievement for the Cloud team. This role coordinates weekly prioritization, incident response, release/change activities, and migrations, partnering closely with Product Support, Project Management Operations, DevOps, Security, and Architecture. The manager owns Disaster Recovery execution for our Public Safety software, drives process adherence (ticketing/communications), and champions automation (IaC, CI/CD) to scale operations safely.
Job Duties:
Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to team on a day to day basis
Establish operational objectives and work plans to determine expectations for goal attainment
Lead team in implementing and carrying out strategic plans
Delegate assignments to subordinate leadership team to achieve objectives
Suggest and develop departmental policies to the Senior Manager of Cloud
Determine resource utilization to meet schedules and goals, including planning, staffing, budgeting, and managing expense priorities
Provide performance feedback and conduct formal performance appraisals
Provide support to employees in the establishment and achievement of goals
Remove barriers, advocate for employees, identify performance improvement opportunities, and promote professional development
Proactively establish and manage succession planning/professional development plans
Ensure team compliance for all policy and procedure related information
Recognize employee relations issue and provide guidance for resolution
Participates in an on-call rotation in support of 24/7 production system
Skills & Requirements
Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Network Operations or related field, or equivalent experience
7+ years of professional experience with public cloud platforms and complex environments involving many dependencies
7+ years of architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of application re-factoring/hosting and migration
3+ years of leadership experience within a technical team
Extensive professional experience working with AWS with hands-on knowledge of EC2/ECS/EKS, networking/VPNs, IAM, logging/metrics.
Proven experience with Datadog/ Observability tools (dashboards, alerts, RBAC) and incident leadership/RCA publishing.
Extensive professional experience scripting with Powershell, Python, Bash or other relevant language
Extensive professional experience working in Agile and DevOps processes and activities on project execution
Proficient with Terraform infrastructure automation tools
Proficient with software development tools, operating systems, virtual and physical infrastructure, network topologies, and security models
Automation first mindset and ability to turn documented manual steps into automated processes
Proficient with build & CI automation tools
Proficient with relational database administration, system administration, and SQL
Comprehensive knowledge of network design & troubleshooting from the physical to application layers
Proficient with Git source code management tools, artifact management and optimal workflows
Proficient skills with monitoring and logging tools
Comprehensive knowledge of task planning and development work practices
Able to lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team and across departments to deliver results on time and within scope
Able to negotiate with customers and management
Able to provide feedback, encouragement, and training to reports to develop a professional work environment
Understand the value of effective communication and leads the team in promoting communication within it
Great organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively
Great presentation and facilitation skills
Certifications a plus
Availability to be on call 24x7 under reasonable circumstances and schedule
Nice‑to‑Have
Exposure to EKS factory models and GitOps/ArgoCD.
Familiarity with ORCA/cloud asset lifecycle and cost controls.
