Job Summary

The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligibility list to fill a vacancy at Bishop's Peak Elementary School in San Luis Obispo. The eligibility list created through this recruitment will be used to fill any vacancies for this classification that occur over a six-month period.

Elementary Principal's Assistants at SLCUSD perform highly responsible and complex secretarial duties in support of a Principal at an elementary school; serve as the clerical lead at the school site; disseminate information and provide assistance to staff, parents, students, and community members.

Qualified candidates will possess a combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to three years of increasingly responsible secretarial experience, and the equivalent of two years of college (without college experience, additional work experience beyond the minimum qualifications may be considered).

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Copy of Transcript (Transcript showing completion of two years of college course work. If you do not have a transcript, please attach a summary of your additional equivalent experience.)
  • Letter of Introduction
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (At least 1 signed letter from a professional reference (preferably drafted within the past two years, and on letterhead))


Comments and Other Information

EXAM INFORMATION
A) Candidates must pass application screening for minimum qualifications. Applicants who meet minimum qualifications and all application criteria will be invited to take the written examination.
B) Morning of Monday, January 12, 2026: Written exam will be held. The written examination covering job related skills, knowledge, and abilities required of an Elementary Principal's Assistant will account for 40% of candidates' final scores. Candidates who pass the written exam with a minimum score of 70% may be invited to oral board interviews.
C) Afternoon of Monday, January 12, 2026: Oral board interviews will be held in the late morning through the afternoon. The oral board interviews will assess personal qualifications, experience, and training, and will account for 60% of candidates' final scores.
D) Date TBD: Candidates who pass the exam and oral board interviews will be added to an eligibility list for this classification, and the top three ranks will be invited to attend a hiring interview.

SPECIAL NOTES: 1) Correctly filling out forms and following other instructions contained in this notice are part of the testing process. 2) Applicants with disabilities need to notify the Human Resources Office of any special needs so that adequate preparation may be made for their testing. 3) Veterans qualifying for the oral board examination may receive 5 additional points added to their final score if proof of discharge is submitted at time of oral board interview. A "veteran" as used here means any person who served in the United States armed forces or National Guard in time of war or national emergency. 4) Eligibility lists are established for a period of six months.
