Senior UX Design Director within the Higher Education Product Team at Pearson. Product Designers are embedded within product teams and responsible for the team's success.

Senior UX Design Director

We seek a strategic and hands-on Senior UX Design Director with a UX/UI product portfolio rooted in innovation and growth. You should have experience shipping complex digital products in large-scale B2C and B2B ecosystems, and a track record of transformative product strategies focused on user value and product-market fit across multiple modalities such as web, mobile, voice, AI, and VR/AR.

As a tenured UX leader, you will set high standards and institutionalize best practices for UX/UI principles, data-backed user research, and UI craftsmanship within your immediate product team and the broader design organization. Please present 2–3 case studies demonstrating strategic product impact and design thinking practices.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Program teams to bring customer-centric product strategies and north-star visions to life.
  • Transition from MVP prototypes to functional pilots and real product launches in the market.
  • Build trust-based relationships to influence product, engineering, data, commercial, and marketing stakeholders, as well as other executive leadership.
  • Advocate for customer-centric design practices and uplevel UX/UI quality standards across the global design organization.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops and design thinking activities.
  • Execute UI designs via user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, and design systems with support from multiple UX/UI designers teams.
  • Lead concept testing of journeys and features and usability testing of product delivery.
  • Involve specialists as needed for UX research, motion graphics/animation, illustration/iconography, and design systems.

About the Role

  • This position reports to the SVP of Design and will partner with the VP of Design for Higher Education across keystone digital products.
  • My Lab Mastery's (MLM) is the university instructor teaching platform, including AI-generated lesson planning, adaptive homework, advanced courseware tools, and gradebooks.
  • Pearson+ is the student learning platform, featuring eTexts, study videos, AI chatbots, robust learning tools like homework, simulators, and quizzes in desktop and mobile experiences.

About the Team

  • You will join a 4-in-a-box squad within the Higher Education product team (product, engineering, design, program leads) with a SWAT team of learning science, AI, sales, and support professionals.
  • You will work with tenured learning science experts to collaborate, support, and mentor the team.
  • You will be staffed with designers with expertise in interactive, conversational, and immersive UX to guide our product north star.

Compensation and How to Apply

Compensation is influenced by skills, experience, and location. The pay range for this role is between $220,000 - $275,000. This position is eligible for an annual incentive program. Benefits information is available from the employer.
