Housing Navigator

As a Housing Navigator, you will play a crucial role in our Housing Program, working directly with homeless individuals to help them secure stable housing. You will provide essential services such as assessments, referrals, assistance with housing applications, and transportation. Additionally, you will develop and maintain relationships with landlords to increase housing opportunities and collaborate with multiple service providers to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
    OR
  • Associate's Degree or completion of two years of college coursework in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field, plus two (2) years of relevant work or volunteer experience.
    OR
  • Four (4) years of relevant work or volunteer experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Depending on the department assigned, a valid California driver's license, a current DMV driving record, and proof of insurance may be required to fulfill job-related travel. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable laws.
As a Housing Navigator you will:
  • Help people find housing. You'll work one-on-one with clients to create personalized housing plans, assess their needs, and guide them through the process of finding safe, stable housing.
  • Support every step of the way. From helping clients gather documents (like ID and benefits info) to filling out housing applications and attending appointments-you'll be there. When possible, you'll also help coordinate or provide transportation to those appointments.
  • Connect clients to resources. You'll refer people to community services and make sure they're linked to the support they need, with a strong focus on housing.
  • Use proven techniques. You'll apply tools like Motivational Interviewing, Crisis Intervention, and Nonviolent De-escalation to help clients stay engaged and resilient.
  • Work with landlords. You'll build relationships with local landlords to open up housing opportunities and help clients maintain those connections.
  • Keep things organized. You'll track your work in HMIS, maintain accurate records, and ensure smooth transitions when clients move into other housing programs.
  • Be part of a team. You'll collaborate with coworkers, attend trainings and meetings, and help guide volunteers or new staff when needed.
  • Stay mission-driven. You'll embody the principles of Housing First and Harm Reduction, always keeping client safety and dignity at the center of your work.
