JOB DESCRIPTION

CLASS TITLE: CROSSING GUARD

DEFINITION: Under supervision of the principal, directs children during the access egress of the school grounds and assures their safety during the process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Maintains order in the area of drop-off and pick-up before and after school.
•Assures the safety of children by directing them and controlling traffic in their assigned area.
•Reports behavioral problems to the school principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:
•Traffic laws appropriate to school zones.

Ability to:
•Direct children and adults in an effective and courteous manner.
•Maintain control of large numbers of children in a hectic environment.
•Communicate in writing for the purposes of composing the required reports and other correspondence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•Education equivalent to 12th grade completion.
•Some experience in working with children.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS of this position are, but not limited to, the following:

Ability to:
•Stand in one area for extended periods of time.
•Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
•Ascend and descend steps.
•See for the purpose of reading student work, laws and codes, rules and policies, and other related matter, and observing students.
•Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
•Communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.
•Communicate using the telephone.
•Reach in all directions.
•Think clearly and rationally to solve problems.
