Under the supervision of the Area Manager/Center Supervisor and working in collaboration with the Family Child Care Coordinator the Family Services Advocate is responsible for recruitment of children, verification of eligibility, parent orientation, referral of parents to community resources and local social services agencies and updating children's health records. Maintains child/family files and reference records and engages in mutually respectful, positive, goal-oriented partnerships with families to promote positive child and family outcomes. Works closely with the Content experts and Area Managers/Center Supervisors to assure timelines are met. Supports CAPSLO's mission and vision by creating inclusive and equitable environments for all eligible families to participate in the program.

Qualifications:

  • Level I:
    • Has a credential or certification in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling, or related field.
  • Level II:
    • Has an AA/AS Degree in Child Development, Social Science, Psychology, Human Development, Liberal Studies, or related field + 1 year of client casework experience. Bachelor's Degree is preferred
  • Level III:
    • Has a BA/BS Degree in Child Development, Social Science, Psychology, Human Development, Liberal Studies, or related field + 1 year of client casework experience.
  • Is bilingual/biliterate in English and Spanish. A test will be administered prior to employment.
  • Must have dependable, insured transportation and valid California Driver's license (mileage reimbursed) and acceptable driving record.


As a Family Services Advocate you will:
  • Recruit and enroll children into the program.
  • Understand and adhere to program policies and ethical practices.
  • Orient parents to services including health, nutrition, education, disabilities, mental health, and parent engagement.
  • Support families by identifying areas of need and linking them with community services.
  • Serve as a liaison for referrals and ensure follow-through.
  • Discuss the importance of coordinated services for children's development and family well-being.
  • Assist families in locating health and dental care sources and encourage involvement in the health care system.
  • Maintain accurate health records and participate in special health screenings.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as word processing, data entry, filing, and mailing.
  • Notify parents of upcoming engagement opportunities.
  • Transport parents and/or children to meetings and appointments when necessary.
  • Coordinate work schedules with the Family Child Care Coordinator.
  • Complete attendance records and maintain statistical data for partnered centers.
  • Adhere to safety rules and practices to ensure maximum safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
