San Luis Obispo County Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce that they are accepting applications for temporary/seasonal Golf Aides to work as Pro Shop Attendants and/or as Groundskeepers!
Successful applicants will be assigned to either Morro Bay or Dairy Creek courses. Incumbents perform a wide variety of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled duties in the operation, and maintenance of county golf courses, open space areas, recreational areas, landscaped areas, buildings, and other related work as required.
Typical Tasks and Representative Duties:
(Not in order of importance)
* Mows greens, tees, fairways, and other turf areas and removes dew from greens.
* Uses verticutters to remove thatch from greens.
* Over-seeds greens, tees, and fairways.
* Cultivates, fertilizes, prunes, and waters turf, plants, and trees.
* Plants and maintains turf, shrubs, trees, and other groundcovers.
* Sprays ornamentals, greens, tees, and fairway turf areas.
* Top-dresses green and tee areas.
* Applies herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides as directed.
* Sets pins and tee markers.
* Operates various hand tools and power equipment such as mowers, edgers, sodcutters, rototillers, saws, trimmers, shredders, and sweepers.
* Installs, repairs, and operates irrigation systems.
* Operates standard office equipment and computer applications.
* Communicates with a wide variety of staff and members of the public in the course of work.
* Enforces rules and regulations to protect the public and the environment.
* Performs restroom and facility janitorial duties.
* Maintains records of course activities and prepares related reports.
Employees in these classifications have flexible hours and shift lengths. They will also be expected to work some holidays and weekends.
New employees are required to complete INS Employment Eligibility Verification forms to certify citizenship or legal residency and authorization to work. These are temporary appointments without benefits or tenure. Candidates must also pass a County pre-employment medical exam.

The ideal candidate for Greenskeeper will have experience with the use of hand and power tools used in the maintenance of golf courses including course set up and equipment operation such as mowers, trimmers, and verticutters.
The ideal candidate for the Pro Shop will have experience working cooperatively and effectively with the public.
It is highly desired that the incumbents will have six months of experience working as golf groundskeeper, landscape maintenance, construction, Parks and Recreation, equipment operator, or related field.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent.
Six months of experience in a related field or completion of two years of college at an accredited institution with a major in recreation, park management, natural resource management, horticulture, forestry, or related field is desirable.
Licenses and Certificates:
Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and Standard Red Cross First Aid certificate or its equivalent within six months from date of appointment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment. Must obtain and maintain a valid CPR and Standard Red Cross First Aid certificate or its equivalent within six months from date of appointment.
An initial application review will be conducted. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and are best qualified will be invited to participate in selection activities which may include online assessments, performance exams, written exams, and interviews.
