Description
JOB SUMMARY
Route and complete schedule house calls, ADC stops, store cleanouts and store deliverires safely, efficiently and on time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform routing of scheduled truck stops and complete and/or deliver trip sheets, tickets/shipping bills and other related paperwork.
Remove materials from trucks and move to designated areas in stores using appropriate material handling equipment.
Place materials in designated trucks for delivery to stores. Load trucks with donations from house calls, attended donation stations and stores for delivery to plant.
Complete daily safety operational checklist prior to leaving plant; monitor truck conditions and performance during operations and report all problems according to defined procedures.
Drive a bobtail truck, operating according to established procedures and highway rules.
Instruct driver trainee in operational procedures; provide work direction to trainee when on the road.
Communicate Company policies, procedures and practices to donors, store personnel and donation attendants.
Perform truck cleaning according to defined procedures.

Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQ'D: Valid California Class C drivers license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: One year truck driving experience, including experience as a Goodwill Central Coast driver trainee, or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Familiarity with material handling techniques and proper lifting procedures.
Basic math ability.
Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast's mission, general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).
EQUIPMENT USED: Typical material handling and transportation equipment; vehicles; typical office equipment.
SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS:
Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish preferred.
Ability to drive Company vehicles. This requires a good driving record.
Ability to follow company dress code, which may require wearing a Company-provided uniform as directed.
Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver in and out of trucks and trailers, operate vehicle controls, walk up and down ramps and lift and/or stack donations.
Ability to understand and accept directions and follow procedures.
Ability to read maps and plan route schedules based on address/locations of scheduled tickets.
Ability to perform routine work, but also to adapt to changes as they occur without loss of efficiency.
Ability to maintain self-control, deal effectively with public and work in cooperation with others.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
The job is routine with occasional periods of high activity/demands and some short deadlines which may require some overtime to complete assignments.
JOB SETTING
Work is performed outside on a loading dock and at donation sites, Goodwill Central Coast retail stores and donors' homes with periods of time spent inside buildings and the truck cab. The temperature and exposure to elements will fluctuate depending on weather conditions. There is exposure to dust, dirt, vehicle fumes and other airborne particles. Occasionally drivers must handle household toxic products which are received in donations. There is regular exposure to diesel and vehicle oil. Work is completed independently but in cooperation with others. There is frequent contact with the public, store and donation center personnel. The noise volume will vary throughout the day with exposure to both truck engine and other vehicle noises, and general noise at the stores, donation stations, donor's homes and the plant/warehouse. Material handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, moveable containers/racks) and trucks may be operated in or near work area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The job requires frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Large or heavier items (51 lbs. or more) will be moved either with assistance from another person or by using appropriate material handling equipment.
Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
Normal mobility is required for walking up/down ramps and climbing in/out of trucks.
